Many writers spend thousands on line editors and proofreaders when what they needed was a story development editor (or a story coach) to help the author deliver a great story that will capture the attention of the reader.

When I work on a writer's manuscript, I focus on the story. My goal is to help the writer create a powerful story that resonates with readers. I do not line edit or proofread. Instead, I focus on the elements of story: the arc, the plot, the character, the motivations, the story beats, the gaps, and the payoffs.

First 50 Pages

I read your first 50 pages twice. First time as a reader to get a macro view of your story. Then again the way a development editor or an agent/acquisition editor would. I look for concept, setup, story problem, your character’s flaws and implied transformation, the events that alter the direction of the plot. The first 50 are the make it or break it.

One hour conference or video conference call where we can talk about anything. From publication options, to brainstorming concepts and plots. Anything goes during these calls.
